


They said it couldn’t happen here; Rochester was different. The police and the mayor insisted that here, our policing culture was different. As leaders reassured the city, they worked to actively cover up the killing of Daniel Prude. The body camera footage was released to the public on September second, six months after covering up the killing. Rochesterians took to the streets outraged that not only could it happen here, but it did happen here, and officials worked hard to cover it up. I learned more about the City of Rochester and its people in those weeks than the year and a half of class which preceded it.
